The Early Childhood Team at UCOL has an exciting opportunity available!

We are seeking a full-time, permanent Lecturer in Early Childhood Education and Care, based at our Manawatū campus, to teach on our Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) and associated programmes. This position would suit a passionate individual who is committed to student success and the development of future kaiako in Aotearoa’s early childhood sector.

As a member of UCOL's Early Childhood Team, you will have the opportunity to inspire others, share knowledge, and support ākonga to achieve their goal of becoming a qualified early childhood teacher. Your role will be to engage and support and motivate student’s through the development and delivery of course content and feedback on professional practice as they journey toward becoming confident, competent, and registered ECE teachers.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Development and delivery of learning material at a degree level, both leading and facilitating student learning
  • Delivering courses within the te ao Maori strand of the programme
  • Maintaining academic and practicum placement records and ensuring compliance with the Children’s Act and Teaching Council requirements
  • Providing pastoral and academic support to students tracking progress and offering targeted support
  • Undertaking assessment within placement/practicum environments
  • Supporting programme marketing initiatives and student recruitment
  • Engaging in and contributing to research that informs teaching practice
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with ECE centres, iwi, hapū, and community stakeholders

Qualifications and skills we are looking for:  

  • Current Teachers' Registration
  • Experience teaching in an early childhood setting and/or tertiary teaching in Early Childhood Education
  • Completed or working toward a Master’s qualification
  • Culturally competent, with demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity, and inclusion
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills, including across diverse cultures
  • Team player with a solution-focused and collaborative mindset
  • NZ full driver’s licence

UCOL Te Pūkenga is a government-funded Institute of Technology, with campuses in Manawatu, Whanganui, Wairarapa.
